Alicia Shems Seed beads, hexagonal beads, turquoise cabochon and cylinder beads, charlottes, silamide and powerpro threads. With August Flame, the artist tried to capture the sensation of transition, of summer turning into autumn, of light changing into darkness. The necklace is about change and the feelings of ambivalence that accompany change. To capture this mood within the structure of the necklace, she transitioned between five colors and several stitches, including right angle weave, Ndebele, peyote, and free-form embellishment. |
