Alicia Shems This is a free-form embroidery and beadwork piece set on raw painter's linen. There is an accompanying poem that encircles the piece. The artist used cotton embroidery floss and beads of various shapes and sizes, and included three-dimensional beadwork in the piece in order to merge sculptural and two-dimensional art. The ideas underlying the piece are memory, light, and perception. Water, Light 1: Migration is about how change is not only essential to life, but also a part of death. |
