The
Perfect Finish to Viking Knit
Now that you've mastered the Viking Knit loop stitch in the Winter 2009 issue,
how do you finish off those ends? I'm going to show you several things you can
do. Plus, we'll experiment with other uses for the Viking Knit chain. With a little
creativity, you can increase the stitches to make your tube piece wider, or decrease
to make your piece thinner. You can beads, make earrings from the leftover pieces,
and so much more.

Dancing
Spirals Earrings
These down-to-earth earrings have a wonderful surprise ... they dance! As you
stand still, the earrings line up in a stack of spirals. When you move, the spirals
dance around! Simple to create and best of all–the longest piece of wire
you'll use is only 2". These earrings are a great project for all the scrap
wire that is lying around your beading surface.

Holiday
Poinsettia Pendant
This poinsettia assumes knowledge of basic wireworking techniques, as well as
twisting wire and coiling wire around a mandrel, and is constructed in three sections.
First is the inner row of petals, using 20g wire. The middle row uses two lengths
of 24g wire twisted together. The outermost layer of leaves, using coiled wire,
is 28g wire coiled over the 20g wire. The center is made by adding the crystals
using freeform wirework. Finish it by stringing on a length of ribbon and a waxed
cord. This flower is from a challenge conducted by beadingforum.com.au.

Freeform
Wire Earrings
Leeza designed these earrings while working at Turquoise-StringBeads in Fall River,
Mass. The owner of the store, Nancy Valentine, had some gorgeous semi-precious
beads, and asked Leeza to use them in a funky freeform wire earring. These are
hot sellers at their store.

Fireflies
You have to go to the fishing section of your local department store and find
the glow-in-the-dark beads! These beads have wide holes so you won’t have
any trouble slipping two wires through them. Just be sure the bead for the head
will accommodate two wires. This design can use any type of wire and will use
up those left over beads too! Try different wing shapes and add some lively color
with the head bead for some fun.
